Chief Keef’s Third LP, ‘Dedication,’ is Here

It’s not the holiday season without Santa Keef.

Today Chief Keef dropped his third LP, Dedication, which he announced back in October. It’s the Chicago rapper’s fourth solo project of the year and fifth in total, following September’s The W mixtape. Dedication, a 15-track affair, features A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Lil Yachty and Tadoe. It’s Keef’s first studio album since 2015’s Bang 3.

Keef came into the game on the strength of booming drill hits and abrasive exhibitions of the wild street life he’d fallen into. In the five years that have transpired since, however, he’s expanded his range significantly, diversifying the type of instrumentals he uses and sometimes Auto-Tune crooning over soul samples. Though Dedication is rooted in the same bombastic ethos that birthed Finally Rich—one of MASS APPEAL’s 18 “new classic” albums—it puts some of Keef’s recent expansion on display, like the half-sung, “Told Y’all,” which sounds like something Pharrell might come up with for the Chi-Town rapper.

He isn’t going mosh pit crazy, shirtless on YouTube anymore, but Keef is still in demand. He bolstered IDK’s recent IWASVERYBAD album with a solid verse on “17 With a 38,” and is featured on fetishized upstart Lil Pump’s “Whitney.”

Last year, Keef held us down with a New Year’s drop. This time, he’s preempted Christmas. Rejoice!
