Today the entertainment world lost the iconic actress, Della Reese. According to reports it appears she passed away from natural causes at her home in California. In 1989, Della Reese co-starred next to Eddie Murphy, Redd Foxx, and Richard Pryor in the film Harlem Nights. Reese’s role as Vera was forever remembered by the film’s fans. Outside of her lengthy resume including TV’s Touched By An Angel, Della found herself on the set of 1996’s Thin Line Between Love And Hate with Martin Lawrence.
Following the news of Della’s death; Lawrence took to Instagram and shared his well wishes for his former co-star.

Della’s family has now went on to release a statement to PEOPLE regarding her passing:
On behalf of her husband, Franklin Lett, and all her friends and family, I share with you the news that our beloved Della Reese has passed away peacefully at her California home last evening surrounded by love. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people,” her costar Roma Downey confirmed to PEOPLE in an exclusive statement.
